After
deciding to sleep in for before our drive back to
San Diego, we got up and began to pack. We didn't
realize until we started to pack just all the stuff
we had bought. It was a good thin we had driven
don't think we could have gotten all the bags on
the plane. So we headed down to the car - dragging
our bags in toe - fortunately, we found a close
spot so we were quite happy that the walk wasn't
that far. And after we had packed we came back down
and stopped in at the diner type restaurant we had
our midnight coffee break at the night before. The
food was all right but the coffee was good and I
think we were all having mixed feelings about the
trip soon coming to an end and a desire to get back
to our normal routines.
|
We
still had our freebie tickets to King Tut's tomb
so we went and exchanged them for 'real tickets,"
(I couldn't understand why we couldn't just use
the passes we had been given, but whatever). And
proceeded around the exhibit. It wasn't anything
grand but it was entertaining and some of the replicas
were quite impressive. Didn't take long to move
our way around and that was it. We made a quick
bathroom stop and started home. No adventures this
time just quiet exhaustion from all of us. By the
time we made it home all we could think about was
a nice little rest and food of course. And that
was how we spent the evening - resting in front
of CSI with food in our bellies.
|
The
next day we rested more and then headed over to my
old job to say high to the ladies. It was refreshing
but at the same time I realized why I had moved on
- things hadn't changed. We got a bite to eat and
decided to visit some more local friends. This turned
out to be a lot of fun. They had recently added child
number 3, so we were able to relish in their happiness
and get our parental fix. After monopolizing their
time for a few hours we returned to my mom's and made
it an early evening. |
The
next day was more of the same, relaxing and resting
up before our evening out. We headed out for one
last Padres game at Qualcomm Stadium. It would also
be our last chance to see Tony Gwynn playing in
a game.
|
The
game was pretty mediocre right until Mr. Gwynn came
out to take a swing. He has been the heart and soul
of that team and with this being his last season
it was sad. We were just glad we had the opportunity
to see him play one last time. We left before the
last inning and headed home to bed - we had a long
drive the next day.
|
As
the morning dawned we got up, cleaned up, packed
and said our good-byes to my mom, before starting
on our long journey home. We decided to take the
route we had taken out with the hopes of making
it to Phoenix in time to stop at the Hard Rock and
get a bite to eat. This was the highlight of our
drive back.
|
Navigating the town - which we ended up doing circles
around twice, was fun and then actually getting
to the restaurant was all very exciting. After we
had filled our bellies and sat for a bit we climbed
back into our car and started the long trek back.
We eventually arrived home at 7 am. It was insane.
